Raw Material for Steel

PIG Iron

PIG Iron

It is a semi-finished metal produced from iron ore in a blast furnace. It has 92%iron in it with high amounts of carbon (typically up to 3.5%), and the balance includes mostly manganese and silicone with small amounts of phosphorus, sulfur, and some other impurities. This form of iron cannot be used as steel but requires a further refining process in a furnace for conversion into steel. Galwalia Ispat Udyog (P) Ltd is one of the leading consumers of PIG iron, which is used in its plants located at Kashipur in North India for producing INDOSTAR TM TMTBars, Angles, Channels and Beams.

Sponge Iron

Direct-reduced iron(DRI), also known as sponge iron is produced from direct reduction of iron ore(in the form of lumps, pellets, or fines) to iron by a reducing gas or elementary carbon produced from natural gas or coal. Many ores are suitable for direct reduction. Sponge iron is produced through direct reduction of iron ore in the solid state. Sponge iron is an iron source relatively uniform in composition, and virtually free from tramp elements. It is mainly used in Electric Arc and Induction furnaces to dilute the contaminants present in the scrap. It has an associated energy value in the form of combined carbon, which has a tendency to increase furnace efficiency. For captive DRI production facilities, there is an added advantage that the delivery of hot DRI to the furnace can reduce energy consumption to 16 - 20%. Galwalia Ispat Udyog (P) Ltd is a leading consumer of Sponge iron at its plants located at Kashipur in North India, for manufacturing INDOSTARTM TMT Bars, Angles, Channels and beams.

Steel Scrap (Ferrous Metal Scrap)

Steel Scrap (Ferrous Metal Scrap)

Scrap consists of recyclable materials left over from product manufacturing and consumption, such as parts of vehicles, building supplies, and surplus materials. Unlike waste, scrap has monetary value, especially recovered metals. Also, non-metallic materials are also recovered for recycling. A scrap metal shredder is used to shred mixed scrap into relatively smaller pieces of metal so that steel can easily be separated out magnetically from the non-ferrous scrap parts. The non-ferrous waste streams require other techniques. Galwalia Ispat Udyog (P) Ltd is a leading consumer of Sponge iron at its plants located at Kashipur in North India for manufacturing INDOSTARTMT TMT Bars, Angles, Channels and Beams.

Silicon manganese

Is a chemical compound made by mixing natural silicon with manganese, an element found naturally in the earth. When combined, these elements can be used to produce a number of specialty steel alloys. Silico manganese enhances the natural properties of steel, giving it increased strength and function, as well as improved aesthetic appeal. This means that silicon manganese alloys can be used in applications beyond those associated with standard steel products. Silicon manganese may also be known as ferrosilico manganese or abbreviated as SiMn. Silico Manganese may be used alone, or combined with other substances to create various alloys. The ratio of silicon to manganese can also be adjusted to give steel the desired properties. Standard silicon manganese steel alloys contain 14 to 16% silicon, and as much as 68% manganese. They also include small amounts of carbon, which is required for the steel to undergo chemical reactions with these compounds. In stainless or specialty steel products, the silicon content can be as high as 30%
